dear brother

dear brother
i miss you
i will miss you as long
as the sun rises in the morning and
sets in the evening
as long as the rain falls,
the wind blows, the birds in the village
sing to the rhythm of the tamtam

dear brother
i miss you
i will miss you
from day to day
your absence has left an empty space,
a deep hole
in my heart

i am struck by the news of your tragic passing -
the tears, hot as boiling water,
still flow from my eyes,
those tears of sadness still flow
oh! — how sad was the news of your death
dear brother…

i know you can’t hear me but,
if you can hear me at all
know that i remember you,
i remember you
my brother,
for you i ask:

oh, angels! dear loving guardians of heaven,
did you give a warm welcome
to my brother in his final resting place?
