NEW YEAR RESOLUTION: WHAT TO DO BEFORE 2021

Don’t make resolutions without an action plan… The secret to success is right in your hands. ~ J. Allen Shaw

What’s Your New Year Resolution?

Perhaps, nobody cares to know it. However, it will interest someone to know that setting one’s priorities matters a lot. If you’re that "someone" who is having difficulties setting up his/her goals, please take note of the following self-help tips:

Set your short and long term goals aside by having them written clearly.

Generate as many ideas as possible. You’ll need them at the end of the day.

In other words, grab that to-do list, notepad or any other suitable writing device you could find, and put down your envisioned goals/projects which you’re, hopefully, looking forward to executing this forthcoming year.

Understandably, prior or proper preparation prevents poor performance.

While time should not be allowed to get wasted in the dustbin of nothingness, it’s of topmost importance to learn how to use it judiciously but meticulously.

Your time is your dime! Don’t play with your time just for the sake of it. Your time is the ‘mother’ that ‘birthed’ your dime!

Setting your goals is a thing. Having an action plan which will help you accomplish the said goals is another thing entirely different from the latter. So, don’t set a goal. Take action. Plan well, too. Don’t fail. You’re not destined to be a failure either… However, think. Think. Think carefully while working on your goals.

Why Do New Year Resolutions Fail?

For Catherine Pulsifer, most new year resolutions fail mainly because “they are only a statement, or what we wish for in the coming year. There are usually no action plans, no deadlines, no backup plans. Sometimes they are unrealistic resolutions, with no other thought or plans beside the statement.”

In the words of Bamigboye Olurotimi, it’s rightly stated that:

“In order to be successful in the new year, stay focused, develop a positive attitude and be passionate with your dreams.”

As I wish you a very fruitful, successful and stress-free year of productivity, I equally enjoin you, dear esteemed reader, to always remember the following assertion which I borrow from best-selling author, Zig Ziglar:

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Bonus: Read my write-up entitled Your Time, Your Dime. It’s all above Time Management and Productivity. You’ll love it. Click here to read it irresistibly.

Read SMART Goals 101: Examples, A Free Template, And A Quick Worksheet For Writing Them. In this article, Brian Tracy takes a look at a special class of goals called SMART goals and how you can use them to increase your chance of success. He also discusses the benefits of using a SMART goals template in the said article.
